In 1924 Oakland, California, 16 year-old Pauline Sprouse steps into a 1922 Model T Runabout and embarks on more than a 1,700-mile journey across half of the United States. She is running from one life in the hope that a better one is waiting for her. Pauline is in search of love and faith, but will it be there like a 'pot of gold' at the other end of the rainbow for her? Using flashback intermittent chapters throughout most of this historical fiction novel, the reader follows a large Protestant family from the mountains of Tennessee to the coal country of southeastern Oklahoma. It is a family story of triumph and tragedy; hope and despair; and in the end, one young woman's faith that love is always victorious.
