Bombyx Biographies - Book 1

Alaena Bombyx is a thirteen-year-old Latin Magician in a world where Magic intertwines with modern life. Once capable of deadly spells, her kind was cursed by the Grudges, leaving them unable to wield weapons or combative Magic. Now, the D-A-M-L (Defense Against Magi Latini or Latin Magicians)-a ruthless organization combining the worst traits of Nazis and Spartans-hunts them down. They killed the closest thing Alaena had to a family and kidnapped her best friend, Dicare. Determined to take revenge, Alaena swears to kill every D-A-M-L Agent. When they come for her, she starts making good on that promise. After exposing herself by turning her principal into an anaconda, her Latin teacher, Mr. Cetera, rescues her and brings her to her estranged father's house, where she discovers that her friend, Bartholomew, is actually her twin brother. Their mission to rescue Dicare leada them and their new friends through battles with magical creatures, an encounter with a Nightmare of the Sea, and betrayals from unexpected allies. At the D-A-M-L stronghold, Alaena frees Dicare, but her deadly Promise is exposed. A Latin Promise can be broken only by death or a contradictory Promise.
