Brilliant Thoughts: Art and Poetry
First published 2024
Deepak Bedi MD, a physician and scientist in the practice of medicine for 45 years, is publishing his first creative work as an amalgam of poetry and art. An immigrant to the US in the 1970s, born and educated in Nairobi, Kenya, he writes in a modern American context. With an undeniably strong attachment to his origins in Kenya, he firmly places his writing in the contemporary Western experience. The nature of these thoughts and their expression comes from a life lived in many cultures; universal and hard to place in time. His original paintings over a twenty year span accentuate the writing, and sometimes serve as a pause for the reader, to allow thought. The art and writing were not planned synchronously, sometimes done many years apart, and just happen to fit each other quite often. Dr. Bedi is a Clinical Professor at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, as a valued teacher and accomplished researcher in the early diagnosis of cancer. His experience in innovative imaging devices is used by NASA in monitoring astronaut health on the International Space Station and he is currently publishing research on health challenges in space.
