British and Irish Poetry
First published 2025
A poetic translation devoid of inspiration is lifeless. The task of translation is inherently challenging, with poetry translation standing out as particularly demanding. It necessitates not only linguistic skill, but also a deep connection to the essence of poetry, an innate poetic talent, and intuition. In order to translate world masterpieces and exceptional works, a translator must have a broad erudition and a detailed knowledge of the translated material. A profound knowledge of the native language is also a necessary requirement. Most importantly, a poetic translation must be the product of inspiration. The centuries-old Georgian translation culture can be celebrated for its richness in congenially translated works, representing some of the prime examples of world poetry.
