"In a near-future Portland wrecked by climate crises, hypercapitalism has driven the economy into the ground. Big Tech and evolved artificial intelligence have become an oligarchy, leaving other industries to crumble. Pushed to the brink and unable to find work, people have had to find all sorts of creative ways to make ends meet. Enter Barnaby Chambers, everyday guy and resident caul broker. Luckily, it's a pretty good living in a world where there is greater demand for the remnants of birth than living children. This is fine with Barnaby, who is simply pragmatic, selling what is already available and providing a service for those that need it. The money is just a side effect that lets him go home each day with his hands clean. That is, until Barnaby suddenly finds himself with an abandoned baby who he must get safely home.
