Game Winners The Greatest Game-winning Goals In Hockey History
First published 2024
"The way to win a hockey game is to score more goals than your opponent. While that may oversimplify things, it is the truth. A vast majority of games in NHL history and international competitions have seen one team skate away victorious and the other left to think about what went wrong. So, that means that in every game in which a winner was declared (a little over 11,000 NHL games have ended in a tie over the course of The League's history), somebody had to have scored a game-winning goal. Now, not every game-winning goal was created equally. Some were scored in sudden-death overtime. Others were scored at some point during the third period. There have been plenty scored in the first and second periods too. And ever since 2005, there have even been numerous ones scored during the shootout. (A quick note, shootout goals in The NHL are awarded to the team and not the players who scored them). Game Winners: The Greatest Game-Winning Goals In Hockey History attempts to name the Top 50 game-winning goals that have been scored.
