Heatwave (Summer Thrillers Collection)

US Marshal Avery Bennet returns home, determined to avenge the death of a friend. What she finds in Rend, Oregon, is a town still tangled up in the same corruption. Trophy hire Sheriff’s Deputy Beau Mitchell wants to change things, but turning the tide is too much work for one man. When a young couple goes missing, Avery and Beau race to find them before local crime swallows them up. Sometimes doing right demands everything you’ve got, but creating change always comes at a high price. To her core, Serenity feels Todd’s ire that her criminal past might destroy his FBI career. True, she’d never told him about it. But she’s angry, too. Serenity leaves divorce papers and drives to the Cody, Wyoming museum for her sister’s reveal ceremony of the antique Buffalo Bill pocket watch. She needs time with Sis, but someone else has other plans. Fire! Gunshots! It's clear someone wants the pocket watch, but Serenity will do what's right even if it puts her in danger. Serenity grabs it and races to the troopers.
