The Fortuitous Faller: A Memoir Journey From Pennsylvania Farm Boy to Oregon Logger
First published 2026
I flew the coop and left my home in the Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania. I found new loves in my quest for adventure among Western Oregon's stunning green forests. Joining the brotherhood of strong-willed men who worked these trees, I became a timber faller. Yes, I am indeed a faller. I have fallen short of my goals; I have had to fall back; I've fallen in with the right people; fell off my high horse; fell in love; fell from grace; and fell back into the arms of my Savior. And now as I lay beneath an alder tree, felled and broken myself, I ask, "Jesus, are you taking me home today? Thank you for a wonderful life."
