The Rendezvous - a Fantasy
By Conrad Dyer
First published 2024
The Rendezvous is a fictional autobiography based on the life of David Walker - abolitionist, and author/publisher of the now iconic Appeal to the Colored Citizens of the World. The title reflects the defining event of Episode I - a fictional meeting between Mr. Walker and French aristocrat Alexis de Tocqueville when the latter visited Boston in September 1831. Although much is known about his political and social views, details of Mr. Walker's childhood and youth, relationship with his mother, with the slave community and other facets of his life remain obscure or unknown. The series combines history, imagination and storytelling to fill these spaces and to provide a more complete sense of Mr. Walker as a personality, and to explore his relevance to contemporary and future Black lives
