"Isode was born a princess. Her life in medieval Ireland is to be spent in elaborately embroidered dresses, bestowing favors on knights who fight for her honor-and ultimately she must marry a king. Sir Palomides, who hails from the distant land of Egypt, is the best knight (maybe second-best, depending) and Isode's most eligible suitor. He plans to attain glory in combat against all challengers, to win Isode's hand. But when Palomides is defeated in a tournament by the wayward Sir Tristram, in disguise, Palomides's fate-and thereby Isode's-is unmoored. Disgraced and forbidden from wearing armor for a year, Palomides decides to ride to Camelot to finally be christened, a perilous journey filled with men and beasts who wish to kill him, and one that forces him to reckon with his beliefs. Tristam, seeking an uneasy truce with Isode, arranges for her to marry his uncle, the powerful king of Tintagel. All the while, Isode's loathing for Tristram battles with trepidation about her future. Her adored lady-in-waiting, Brangwayne, offers little comfort. And when Isode accidentally drinks a magic love potion, the chaos unleashed threatens to shatter chivalry itself.
